Create The Perfect Seedbed For Red Amaranth

This is crucial if you want your seeds to germinate well. How well your seeds germinate depends on the soil bed. Make sure your soil bed is weed free, free from large stones and large earth clods. Rake the soil well. Work the rake in different directions to get out as many stones and lump of earth as much as possible. Planting And Growing Red Amaranth:

Saw Lal Saag /Red Amaranth seed directly into the soil when the soil has begun to warm in spring. The seed is very fine so you can mix it with a carrier like sand or coffee grounds. Scatter the seed and rake it in lightly. Cover the ground with a sack or a polythene sheet for a few days until you see tiny red shoot coming out and take off the cover.

By covering the ground the warmth helps to germinate a little faster. Water it regularly, do not let the soil dry up or over watering can damage the crop as well. To get the best out of the plot and to get more lal saag /Red amaranth you will have to clear the weeds regularly because weeds can overtake the young plant and destroy it.
